inner wearing of back tyres ...

Asked by 2pr02p Dec 04, 2008 at 04:29 PM about the 1998 Audi A4

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my 1998 A4 Audi back tyres wear inside within 10000miles.  The steering wheel is also misaligned.
I have been changing the back tyres every 10000miles for last 4years!

I have had the wheels aligned  couple of times from different places, but this has not solved the problem.

what could be wrong with it?

I would take it to a qualified tire shop and explain the problem. It does sound like an alignment issue to me!!! Either that or worn struts!

you definately need a 4 wheel alignment, not a 2 wheel alignment, also, if the car has been in an accident and not had the frame properly straightened, this can lead to incorrect alignment angles even though the alignment machine says they are ok.

I have just been to see my local mechanic and he tells me that the bushes are loose/partly worn, therefore need replacing! He said it is a big job, but could not give me an estimate of how much it will cost. one more thing I fogot to mention, the car shakes a little when driving at ~75miles/hr. the car has not been in an accident, and has been twice aligned (using 4wheels alignment).
