How much can you tow with a 4 cyl 2005 Subaru Outback?

I'm hoping to make a long trip (Austin, TX to Lake Superior) with a bunch of
stuff. Just need to know what's possible.

The thing's got 175,000+ miles and a dubious record (e.g. might have been in
an accident, might have been repaired just fine)

Very little. I would hesitate to tow anything at all in an old, high mile Subaru in the heat.

Good luck on your trip. You could rent a truck if you have a lot of stuff to move.
