check engine light is on ... most common problem associated with this?

It could be so many things. Something could have gone wrong with any part of the engine which sends a code to the car computer to let you know. It could be something as simple as the gas cap isn't tight enough to a serious engine problem that need immediate attention. Best thing you can do is take it to an Autozone and have them run a free diagnostic check. They will tell you exactly what is wrong. I hope that helps.
