Why does my car shut off while driving?

Asked by Robbieburton Mar 05, 2017 at 06:15 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 pontiac grand prix and while I was
driving the other day, my car just shut off. I lost the
power steering and my battery and engine lights
turned on. Any thoughts would really help

Were you able to restart it? If not I"d start by checking the fuel pump. If it restarted I would have it scanned for trouble codes.

Why are you so convinced its the fuel pump? If you can hear it running I'd think its safe to say its pumping although I suppose there could be an exception. Have you scanned it for trouble codes? Have you checked the fuel pressure?
