Hello DPatrick, The steering column contains a device called a "Clock Spring" which supplies your Air Bag with power. If the electrical filament is broken inside the clock spring your tell tale will illuminate, showing there is a problem present with your SIR system. Please be sure to follow all precautions and procedures when working on your SIR system, accidental activation is possible and potentially life threatening. For others viewing this post, there are other components in the system that can fail. The SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module) is known to be susceptible to moisture and failure...see bulletin 03-09-41-003 Issued August 2003.
