91 LHO 3.1 preventative maintenance on intake gaskets?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a super nice 3.1 Olds CS with 44,000 original miles. I just bought the car and I
heard that these would blow the intake manifold gaskets which were supposedly plastic.
Wikipedia says the later L82 3.1 (93-99) had this problem. In their article it is stated of my
engine (the LHO 3.1) "has retained an excellent reputation for reliability, with some going
over 300000 miles". That is comforting, but should I just go ahead and have updated
gaskets put on as my mechanic suggested rather than wait for a potential breakdown on
a long trip someday?
