Is this a V8? or V6? or a 4 banger? If you do not have a EEC-IV tester get one. 1990 is too old for OBD II tester. If it is throwing codes it may point to the problem. A coil failure is possible but so are several other possibilities. My '89 GT had a misfire while accelerating that turned out to be faulty O2 sensors. It once had a cut-out problem that was a bad switch box. The tester should help narrow the culprit.

Had a similar issue on my 89 gt, it ended up being the throttle position sensor.

V8 no codes. idles fine no misfiring it runs fine until it cuts out it cut out on me at the same place on the way home from work in the after noon which makes me think it has to do with something getting hot because it does it in the after noon but not in the morning on the way to work
