Nissan Altima 2004 battery and brake light went on and later the acceleration was slow

I started my car today and both the brake light and battery light was on.... i drove for about
20 mins and suddenly the car slowed down ...I turned off the engine several times and it
worked fine for 10 mins or so and again while i stopped in a light it started to slow down
again and I again tried to restart the car but didn't work. What should be the problem be?

Do you think it is ok to drive till my mechanic if it drives ok in the evening? Can you give me the estimation on cost to replace alternator. thank you!

I agree with Tom. Also, a good auto-parts store will test your alternator for you for free. Also, how old is your battery? Is it original to the car?

I'm having the same issue, I replaced the battery and the alternator and still brake and battery light stay on... if I disconnect the alternator and give the plug power the lights go off... any suggestions??
