A newly replaced Oil pump not oiling

I recently replaced an oil pump in a 1997
Mitsubishi eclipse and when u start the engine, it
does not sound like it is oiling

typically if you changed out the oil pump on the first start up you would turn the car over several times with out starting to prime the pump. you should have the oil pressure checked. also if this happens for an extended period of time the noise your hearing could very well just be the flat tappets in the over head cam being worn out slightly.

Check oil pressure with a gauge. Engine might have had the critical damage done before the pump was changed.
