smoke from dashboard or powder from airbag

i have a 1998 galant and one day i was going down the road and what i thought was smoke around passenger dashboard smelt like the powder from airbag it didn't deploy but i turn off engine and ever since it won't start. would you know what i would need to look at to repair

I would look to see if there is a recall on the air bag. Something may have happen to make the system think it has deployed, thus the engine would not start in this condition.
