Tire size compatibility

Asked by Sep 08, 2019 at 03:18 AM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Will a 215/60/R16 tire fit or is it
compatible wit a 205/55/R16 tire?

Amanda, I will say NO, as the 215 tire is over an inch too big for your vehicle and will rub when turning, plus the speedo will be off. Stick with the OEM stock size for safety reasons.

The proposed 215/60R16 is ,65 inched larger in radius and .4 inches wider. That might cause a problem by rubbing inside the wheel well on tight turns or heavy bumps. A 205/60R16 would be much better choice. This would only add about two miles per hour to your speed at seventy mph.
