2018 Chevy Equinox Sunroof

Asked by GuruCWWPT Feb 09, 2019 at 11:52 AM about the 2018 Chevrolet Equinox

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox. The sunroof
window is fine but the shade is open. The
shade has become disconnected from the
piece in the track that pulls it open and close.
Is this an easy fix? Is this under warranty?

Hey GuruCWWPT, I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox 2LT. I’ve had my sunroof shade serviced two times now. First time the back corner was catching and bunching as the shade closed. They replaced one of the clips in the back and it worked fine after that. The second time the shade completely came off the track as it was retracting. They fixed the clip again and greased up the track because they thought it was catching. Both times it was covered under warranty. Unfortunately, it is still causing issues so they are trying to figure out the next game plan. Have you had your vehicle serviced yet?

I've had the clips break on my 2018 Premier 3 times in less than 3 months. Twice it shot back like a roller shades. Very frustrating.

Same thing just happened to my 2018. Went into the dealership today and it looks like they installed those clips totally wrong. From what I remembered before, you could never see the clips and the shade was completely flush when it was closed. Now I have a small Gap at the front and I can see the clips. Mine did the exact same thing as in another post, it was going back and then all the sudden came off of the clips and then snapped back like a roller

This has just happened to me and I’m siting at the dealership as I type. I let the shade back and ZOOM, it snapped back then when I tried to shut it was just the clips no shade attached. So I got out and reattached but then when I opened it same thing. Now they fixed it but it is hanging down like sagging and looks a mess. They are now back trying to fix it yet again.

Hi Teresa thanks for the response. I also have a 2018 premier. I had a black one for less than 2 months (less than 1,000 miles) and the entire sunroof broke. It would not open and it would not close. It took four months (i also didn't have a car for the four months) until the dealership finally agreed to switch me into a new 2018 equinox. I have had this one for 3 years now and the white clips snapped off the railing (black clips are still intact). It seems to be an easy fix. The part the quotes is $20 so I don't see where they get $700 from.

KT, Were you able to fix this problem yourself? Or by chance did you take this to the dealership? This happened to me and i still have the clips as well. Yes, it does look easy to fix, yet I'm not sure which way the clips would go in. This is why I ask. Thanks for any and all help.

Ok I just had this problem and (hopefully) managed to fix it. The white clips have a wavy end on one edge of the clip, that goes at the top, and pushes in to the rail that the black plastic part is attached to. So you have the shade folded over on itself, pull it past the black plastic part and slide back into it, then reach behind with the white clip and push it onto the back of the black plastic part in the direction of inside the car to outside the car (I hope that makes sense?) it should then clip into place firmly, do that on both sides and test full retraction. It's hard to make out in the photo, but that's how it should look from above when fitted. This should not take a dealer more than 10 minutes and not hundreds of $$$, if I can figure it out with no trained mechanical knowledge.

I realized you had to fold the shade up to hide the black bar, which snaps into place on the 2 tracks of the motor. The white clips don't seem to do much, but they clip in beneath the shade so all the hardware is hidden. The pic from Chris was a big help.
