12 volt battery on a 2017 Prius Prime

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The 12 volt battery on our 2017 Prius Prime died twice. Charged using cables
both times, but then decided to put in new battery the second time.  How is the
12v battery being charged?

400

The 12V Battery is charged by the HV Battery Power Inverter/Converter taking electric energy from hybrid battery/(traction battery). this Traction Battery will not be charged If the shift position is in N for an extended period of time. avoid this to help prevent the battery from discharging. To stop the Prius completely depress the brake pedal and then apply the parking brake. Shift the shift position to P to stop the Hybrid System and save power/electricity. Never recharge the 12V battery while hybrid system is ON. Also, be sure all accessories are turned off. Make sure that the 12-volt battery terminals are not corroded and that there are no loose connections.
