Starter kicking in when shutting down motor

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 57 chevy model 3600 pickup that when I go to shut off the engine, the starter is kicking in? The truck cranks properly and runs fine, but when I go to shut down the starter kicks in until the motor stops? Any ideas anyone?

I would guess that the ignition switch is broken, if you can't find one easily you could remove the starter wires from it and put a push button switch in place temporarily to avoid that.

I have already replaced the ignition switch. The system has been converted to alternator (not by me however). I'm not sure what the diode is or where to put it thou. Can you give me more on that?
