Possible Coolant Leak

Asked by Victoria Oct 10, 2020 at 06:42 PM about the 2015 Subaru Forester

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2015 forester has a possible coolant leak and I'm not sure if it's ok to
drive while I wait for an appointment at the mechanics. I noticed a large blue
stain on the driveway this morning under the car and the coolant level is just
above the minimum. I tried to ask Subaru to top off the coolant to make sure
I didn't run out while I was waiting especially over the weekend but they
insisted i was fine because I was just over the minimum. Is the car ok to
drive and any ideas what may be wrong? The car has about 70K miles and
had its last maintenance in the spring (because of COVID it hasn't been
driven very much).

If it is above the min you are fine. How far are you driving? Also a blue stain might be windshield washer fluid, is that low?

My windshield washer fluid is orange and the coolant is maybe a .5-1” above the line.

Just keep an eye on the fluid levels after each time you drive it, stick a large piece of cardboard under the car and see if you can tell what type of fluid is dripping.
