2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee Gas Tank Cap - Engine Light

Asked by Brandon Oct 08, 2018 at 01:16 PM about the 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all. My gas tank cap recently broke off, once this happened a message
reading "Check Gas Tank Cap" as well as the check engine light appeared. I
got a new cap and the message went away but the engine light is still on. Is
there a way I can reset this?

If you cancel the code indicated by the check engine light, you won't know what's going on to cause it. It's best to read the code, fix it, then clear the code. Sometimes if the problem is fixed, it will clear the code itself after so many corrected drive cycles. You can also clear the code by disconnecting the battery a few minutes. If it reappears, fix it.
