what is causing this problem

Asked by Jun 02, 2017 at 09:00 PM about the 2013 Ford Edge

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my daughter was sitting at a red light on a hill when she noticed her car was
rolling backwards, she tried giving it some gas and that did nothing, she
finally put in park, turned it off and then after all of her lights came on she
noticed that her oil light stayed on for a few extra minutes and she drove
the remainder of her trip safely what should we look to find the cause of
this.

I would have engine oil and transmission fluid checked and have a auto parts check for any codes. They will check for codes for free. It's a start..

Sounds like she's low on oil and transmission fluid. By being on the hill this caused the oil and transmission fluid to all be at one end of their pans. Like holding a glass of water on an angle. This prevents the pick up tube in both the engine and transmission from being submerged in oil or transmission fluid. So the engine loses oil pressure and the light comes on. The transmission would lose fluid pressure as well and prevent the vehicle from moving. Check all the fluids and top them all off as needed. HTH. -Jim

Sounds like a problem the dealer won't be able to duplicate
