What could be the problem besides the alternator and battery?

Alternator we had worked on...a couple diodes burned...after the alternator was worked we put the battery back in but there was a spark on the battery cables and the charging system light went back on as well. the warning light came back on after the ac was turned on....now the alternator has same problem the diodes burned again...what is our problem?
