2005 BMW 325 xit starting problem

I tried to start the car this morning - key in the ignition, turned it, lights started flashing, dashboard lights up, but no cranking...tried again, same results, didn't have time to investigate further so jumped into wife's car so I wouldn't be late for work. It doesn't seem like it would be the battery(?)...any ideas where to start?

Thanks - as we've just purchased it from an Acura dealership two weeks ago, I'm not certain of the battery age...but seems a logical place to start.
