Driver seat 97' Ford explorer

My driver side seat in my 1997 Ford explorer will
go backwards only partly forward before it sounds
"like a dead battery." I can't get my seat forward
enough for me to reach my pedals. Before it
stopped going forward, my seatbelt clip thing
would click multiple times while only going
forward. I can't see or feel anything that would be
obstructing it's path on the tracks.

Your electric seats move by steel cables. These cables are squared on both ends. They attach from an electric motor to a gear box. What happens with what your describing is the square part of the cable rounds off and starts to slip. This causes that "dead battery" sound. You will need to replace that cable. I would recommend taking it to a repair shop as this can be a difficult repair without mechanical experience. AutoTechAdvisor.com
