Transfer case Swap

i have a 97 4.0 v6 4x4 explorer with a bad  
transfer case and a 98 awd 5.0 v8 explorer I m
using for parts . Is transfer case out of the 98 awd
5.0 v8 explorer interchangable  with the transfer
case on my 97 4.0 v6 4x4 .

One book says it will another says it won’t, I know one thing the AWD transfer case is a bad one, the viscous clutch inside it is always going out, either locking up or flying apart ruining the gearing. Stick with the standard transfer case and stay away from the AWD unit.
