Asked by sammaletta May 27, 2015 at 12:14 AM about the 1996 Honda Accord

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Ok, so one day i was driving my 1996 Honda accord and it was sprinkling(thank god that
was it) but the windshield wipers went out. The next day we noticed the brake lights
stayed on even while the car was off, about an hr later the cruise control stopped working,
then maybe 20 minutes after that my speedometer started jumping!!! I have read into the
vss and the brake light switch but its so weird that all of this started happening within 2
days.

Well I had a 1990 Honda Accord and within a month I had the Brake light switch break and need replacing as well as the connecting rods that move the windshield wipers. That windshield wiper rod going out seems common with older Honda and Acura cars as the plastic bushing gets old and dried out. If your VSS is going out that could explain the Cruise control not wanting to work as well as the jumping Speedometer.

Sounds like old age catching up with the car. Are you the original owner, do you know how well the car was maintained & serviced? Does or did the car sit unused a lot? These are all factors
