Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Currently my 2000 Honda Odyssey radio only works when I start the car, pull the fuse out
for the radio and then put it back in and then enter the radio code. When I turn the car off
and back on, the radio stops working. Any suggestions to fix this?

Sounds like you are loosing the KAM power to the radios memory circuit, possible bad wiring or radio internal problem. Check your radio power circuits at the radio, you may need a wiring diagram to find out what wire is what.

Would you suggest getting a new stereo or changing the cables if thats possible.

I would check the wiring to the unit, there should be at least 1 wire that is hot all the time. Putting in an aftermarket unit would not necessarily solve your problem as it will also need a KAM circuit.

What exactly is a KAM circuit and where do you think I could buy one?

The KAM circuit is already built into your vehicle, that is why you need to test it to make sure it has power with the key off. It should be labeled in the main power distribution box as KAM or PWR 2.

Okay. How would I test that? The interior lights and everything else work, jus not the radio. Do you think that the KAM fuse needs to be replaced?

A test light works just fine, or if you want you can pull each individual fuse and do an ohms test on each one. I still think you need to pull the unit and test the connections on the back of the radio.
