Could this be theAnti theft system?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving to work under normal
road conditions and my traction
control, check engine, and reduced
engine power came on all at once. I
continued driving to work, about 20
miles and got to work fine. I tried
resetting my traction control by
disconnecting the negative cable on
my battery but when I tried
reconnecting the cable the starter tried
engaging and all my other electronics
would not work and the key is stuck in
the ignition. I tried connecting the
battery once again and just the check
engine light came on. Please help
trouble shoot if you have ever
experienced this problem. I work at a
minimum wage job, I'm a single female
and I don't have the money to fix
potential problems. I was told to
contact a locksmith and have them
reset the antitheft system. Will this fix
the problem or is there another
solution. I'm desperate for help

Visit your local auto parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Since the check engine light is on that's where you should start. If you can't get the vehicle there, some parts stores will loan tools and you can scan the computer yourself. Post the codes you get and we can help further. Hope that helps! Jim
