Water pump for 2009 chevy malibu lt
I think you are talking about the drive belt. A car doesn't have both a time chain and a fabric belt. It has one or the other. Theres always a belt on the water pump for it is pulley driven. If you feel your belt is old then change it. Look in the underside of it for cracks.
Also look at the belt tensioner. If it's close to the end of it's travel, replace the serpentine belt. Hope that helps! Jim
You probably have the 2.2 liter engine and that has a timing chain for the cam and for the water pump. Chains are designed to last the life of the engine unless there another fault, like a tensioner, guide, or sprocket, that causes the need to replace the chain. Change the water pump and inspect the chain.
