Dashboard lights on a 005 Honda Element

I just bought a 2005 Honda element and the dashboard lights are not working! Does anyone know if they are suppose to light up! This just threw me for a loop! The ticker is lit but no numbers or anyhing! please help! Thanks

make sure the headlight switch is turned to left if so take to dealer for repair.

This is an obvious answer but did you hold down the pin coming out of the odometer reading until the dots underneath the odometer showed up? Hold it down until you see five dots.
