You should be able to do that. Easy way to find out is go to car-part.com and enter your cars information and select engine for part search. When the list pops up look in the left hand column and you will see what car the 2.2 came out of. If you see gmc sonoma as donor car then that means you can use the engine from your sonoma. Or call the dealership abs ask.
