66 rear axle/differential

Asked by terkel Jul 22, 2011 at 04:56 AM about the 1966 Mercury Park Lane

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi all.
A friend of mine asked me this:
Why is two elictrical wires going into the differential? (He only has the rear axle, not the car)
I was dumbfounded, but took a couple of wild guesses:
Is it a transmitter to something? Is it an electrical sort of hill-holder?
I've searched the net to my best, but came up with nothing.
That's why I ask all of you: What are they for?
Any help will be deeply appreciated :o)
Thanks in advance
Terkel

Hi Riff. That may be it. Thanks a lot :). I've never heard of those before, but I read up on them after your post. I think its unlikely, it's an Elocker - why would anyone put that in a Mercury? But it is absolutely a possibility. Thanks again. Kind regards Terkel
