Now the next thing I am going to say is what I do...not recommended by any manufacturer. In the transfer case of my 1976 Ford f250 4X4 I use 50W motor oil. My transfer case has 180,000 miles on it, and the specs call for 75W90 gear oil. It is chain driven. I don't know diddly about GM transfer cases, but mine is the second one in my truck..a Borg-Warner But I have had no trouble, matter of fact the 50W is in the transmission also and they both run smooth as silk, especially considering age.....and when it's 0° it shifts soooooo much easier. Now...I am not suggesting you use the same in your transfer case. Just saying what works for me.
