my 2002 sebring has an electical wiring issue. It blows fuses when trying to start it. Any ideas on how to fix it?

The car stalled at a light. It's blowing fuses when we try to start it. The mechanic says its
a wiring issue and has to be traced out. Any ideas where the short might be? The battery
and attaching brackets were replaced the week before. 2 weeks before that it sputtered
and died when it was driven through a water pubble. When it dried out it started without a
problem. the car has just over 100,000 miles on it.

Your short is in the wiring related to the starting system. Check all wires that were attached to the new brackets that were recently replaced. Electrical systems can get grounded at exposed areas when exposed to water creating a path to ground of the vehicle. Allow a car to completely dry up if you have driven it in water. Also, have someone check all electrical plugs and connectors to make sure they have not corroded or become rusty. Especially at ground points. Hope you find the cause.

What fuses ar blowing? The same ones each time? Check the energized power path when the starter solenoid is activated, this is likely the avenue to ground, and I'd bet those brackets somehow are involved. (trapped wire, grounding connector, cracked or missing insulator, etc.)
