2001 Cadillac deville
When i try to start my caddy it wants to turn over
but dies so when i press on the gas peddle while
turning the key it starts up but i have to keep on the
gas for it to stay running...and when it decides to
stay running it idles high and when i drove it i had
to keep my foot on the break to keep me at the
right speed....i replaced the map sensor bcuz it
was broke i have replaced the throttle sensor and
plan on replacing the idle sensor soon...
no codes mentioned..replace the idle sensor soon...it should not be in a learn mode..there were no codes if not that could be a problem in itself
Me and a friend hooked up a code reader 13 codes came up and they was sensors..what would cause it to be in re-learn mode and how long will it last...
On my Deville I replaced the map sensor, cleared the code and then did a drive time protocol and that fixed for about 8 months and it started doing the same thing, had the same map sensor code, replaced the map sensor again, it lasted 2 weeks, replaced it again and it lasted 3 days, live data scanner did indeed show it still was a bad sensor, replaced it a 4th time, cleared the code and did the drive time, code came back but it was idling fine checked the live data information it showed a good map sensor reading but the air flow reading was now jumping, checked for any TSB's and found one stating if the code comes back replace the air flow sensor, did that and the code went away. Everything was fine for another 4 weeks then one morning it wouldn't idle, blast I though another map sensor failure, but nope the readings were good, and it had a code for idle speed too low removed and checked the IAC motor assembly, it would not move, the pintle was stuck and no one had one in stock, even the dealer, so I soaked the pintle end in penetration oil for a few hours and the oil turned black, took a chance and put it back in and started the car and it started to idle, but was still low about 450 but at least it could be driven until the new IAC arrived, installed the new one made sure the codes were cleared, and road tested, so far no more problems and it has been over 2 months. Long story I know, but you might have the same problem I have had. You had mentioned idle sensor, your car does not have an idle sensor it has the same ISC that mine has, two Phillips screws hold it on and one wire connection, make sure that connector is good and the wires are not broken right at the connectors base where the wires enter the connector. Note if your problem is the IAC and you replace it, clear the codes, the engine might idle fairly fast, just take it and drive it, mine settled in and started idling properly within the first 5 minutes but sometimes it takes longer, have seem some cars take up to twenty minutes. K thanks also its leakin oil but it also has way to much in it i checked the oil filter and it was pretty lose so i tightened it but it still leaks i got the front of the car on jack stands and wiped off da bottom but there is oil everywhere any ideas...i been looking it up and ppl say i gotta take out motor and that cost $4000 i dont have
If it's just the valve covers leaking and running down you don't have to pull the engine to fix those, but if the rear main seal is leaking then yes it will have to come out and that is where you must decide if it is worth it or not, Devilles seem to loose value really fast so unless you are thinking of keeping it until it rusts away might be better off putting the money towards another vehicle, preferably a rear wheel drive that has a more convential design.
