Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2002 Cadillac deville  use to over heat a lot
took it a mechanic  and  they said  I had a blown
head gasket.  They fix it brought home and it did
the same issues  white smoke  coming out . The
mechanic  took s look and said my motor  was  no
good . So  here  the question  is it worth rebuilding
the motor  or can it be something else wrong  and
not to go back  to this mechanic ?

Northstar engines have problem with head bolts that pull out. There is a fix but it is not cheap so look into that first before making a decision. Find a wrench that knows Northstar engines!

White smoke is water burning in one or more of ur 8 cylinders. When the change of the head gasket was done a tune up should have been. As far as the over heating go's u might want to check ur thermostat by putting on the heat/A/C it will open up and allow the coolant to flow now if this happens than u know u have to change that. Now wen that job is being done have the whole system flushed and cleaned at the same time. Also check the the seals on the cap of reservoir for corrosion, clean that too. Are there any oil leaks? If so I hope the gasket was placed properly and all the bolts weren't damage as they were being tighten. How many miles are on the car? And how well was it maintained? Remember these cars are classics. They're ment to be babyed.... Lol.... Wish u the best. Take care..
