Charging problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought this truck and it died on me on the way
home but not when I test drove it. I have changed
the battery, the alternator, the voltage regulator, a
couple plugs and wires that deal with the alternator
and voltage regulator. Now it charges but only
when the truck is accelerating. When truck is at
idle it doesn't charge. All parts changed are brand
new and tested good. Would anyone happen to
know what direction I should go in to find my
problem?

Check the fusible link between alternator and starter solenoid. If it's bad alternator can't charge. Also check ground from voltage regulator, it grounds to the sheet metal body (usually fender) which grounds to the cab, the cab grounds to the engine block with a braided (usually) ground strap. If grounds are bad, alternator/voltage regulator can't properly charge battery.
