Problem

the distributor is out of position...these are fussy and can rotate to any position...move it to TDC...firing on the one on TDC...in correct orientation will fire correctly~...it's a darned easy difficulty, especially if you've had the pin out and spur gear off so that you could get to the semiconductors in there...putting the thing back is problematic on acct of the spur diagonal changes position when pushed into place~ monkey puzzle...wasted many hours with this~ TDC is the KEY~

On my harmonic balancer just set it to tdc not 10 20. Ok I'll try that in the morning. Where I got it set now it dropped in rotor button in right place thanks

I'm curious when you say you went 'back' to points. By 79 all Ford V-8 engines were electronic ignition. Also, be very careful with a couple of things. The firing order is eccentric, to say the least. It is VERY easy to muddle the 2 and 3 and 6 and 7 leads. They must be kept separate, too, as the charge can jump from one wire to the next causing all sorts of misfires and knocks. The engine will run, but you do run the risk of holing a piston.

Keep in mind there are 4 different firing orders for the Windsor engines. If the engine is not the factory engine, or the cam has been changed, you could well have a different order than the one you expect. The 70s 302 Windsors did have a firing order where the 2/3 and 6/7 were beside each other on the distributor. When the engines were re-engineered for the 85 model year the firing orders changed for both the 351 and 302. It is very important to know which cam you have in your engine. Because the 2 cylinders fire one after the other, though, you have to be extra careful to separate the wires. Current can jump between the wires and cause a misfire. Always use a good wire loom on these engines.
