How to repair flooring panel

Asked by Saturnride Mar 28, 2019 at 08:05 AM about the 2005 Saturn VUE V6 AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

How can i repair the flooring panel
under the back seat that covers
the gas tank. The mechanic cut
and cut up the paneling to get to
the fuel pump. Started from a
small lil cut in the flooring to a real
big one . looks like he just pulled it
back with a screwdriver or
something. He fixed the problem
but never returned to cover the
panel floor. Im scared to even
drive it with the gas tank exposed
and the fumes from the tank

Was this at a shop or garage? No way should a mechanic ever damage a car to perform a repair. No decent mechanic would chop up the floor to get to the fuel pump, they should have dropped the tank. That hole is now going to let fumes (exhaust as well), moisture, and road noise in. To fix it, it will need a patch panel welded in, then carpet or flooring replaced. (And to weld directly over the gas tank means removing it, which he should have done in the first place!) You are going to have to demand this be made right by the mechanic, and if they won't cooperate you may need to bring them to court. Good luck!
