2005 Saturn Vue a/c compressor

Ok, bear with me know, :-)
I have a 2005 saturn vue, 2wd, 3.5 litre. It has a bad a/c compressor. My question is.... Is the pulley on the front of the compressor that the serpentine belt rides on just a idler pulley when the a/c is not engaged. I can replace the compressor but I do not have the equipment to purge or flush the system. As the a/c DOES NOT HAVE TO BE USED can I just install the compressor and not connect the wiring so it wont activate the clutch when the heater is turned on. I think I should be able to do this if the pulley is just an idler pulley.

you guys are a little slow on the draw here. I asked this question over two days ago and still no answer. You no longer need to respond, I found my answer on another site. Good bye car gurus. You guys are useless.
