Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Over the past 1 plus yr. the evap code-check engine has been actvated; each time the "smoke diagnostic test" shows the leak to be at the gas cap. a new cap seems to last only 1-3 months before it malfunctions again. Its getting old any input would be appreciated.

Could be a small leak from the filler neck...Just make sure that whenever you get it checked that they tell you what the code is. There are at least 8-10 different EVAP codes that can pop up depending on the leak...but typically the gas cap is the culprit...and it doesn't surprise me that it repeats on your vehicle...very cheap parts....check out Ford's new "Easy Fuel" capless fuel filler technology that they have...no more check engine lights on because of gas caps...
