How can I make the radio stay on till I turn it off?

Asked by DDVC8L Sep 27, 2023 at 03:29 PM about the 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 AWD

Question type: Car Customization

This is our travel vehicle. On a long trip, we stop to overnight. But we like to sit and listen to the radio or maybe catch a game on Sirius and wind down. We shut off the engine and the radio stays on, but 5 minutes later it shuts off. To turn it back on, we have to touch the start button and it turns back on. It works but it's annoying. Is there a setting somewhere to keep ACC on until I shut it off?

No. But the dealer might be able to do a hard wire and then reprogram the BCM to ignore the infotainment settings. I'll just say good luck.

The reason the car shuts off and the radio isn't designed to play more than a half hour when the engine's not running is that you run down the battery. I remember those days with my "57 Bel Air, "62 Impala SS, or my "67 Vette, when we could run the radio for two hours without a problem. With all the crap on newer cars, batteries have become near failures in all cars: they can't last if you run any accessories without the generator running. If you hot-wire the radio and play it for 45 minutes, you'll never get the engine started. So, use your I-phone insrtead.

"With all the crap on newer cars, batteries have become near failures in all cars" Amen. My 2011 Mercedes has a lot of crap, but nothing like this thing. So many things I neither use, need or want. Now that you bring it up, I have to wonder how much it drains the battery every time I stop at a light, the engine dies and it has to restart the car. Heaven help me if any of these annoying features malfunctions while we're hundreds of miles from home. Thanks for your input everyone.

Read the owners manual, there are still some things you can turn on or off, time delays, etc. Yes it is a cause for concern that your new rig could just up and quit running in the middle of nowhere. When computers control computers in your vehicle anything can happen at any time. Remember it’s not if it will fail, it’s when.
