What are the steps to remove the air conditioning compressor?

I need to replace the air conditioning compressor. I would also like to know if I need to replace the entire compressor or if I can simply replce the clutch?

Dear Imskrceny-- Repair on air conditioning systems is usually something to be done by a trained and certified professional only. Because it is a federal crime to release refrigerant into the atmosphere, you will find very few experts who will guide you through the self-service approach. Why risk the possible liability? is the clutch frozen? did you loose freon because of it? if you did you need to replace the compressor. if it's just the clutch you can do it yourself if it's replaceable,some are not.
