Defects in the 2004 bonnevilles witht he gauges and ac/heating unit

Asked by silkygirl Feb 21, 2014 at 11:24 AM about the 2004 Pontiac Bonneville SLE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We bought a 2004 Pontiac Bonneville along with my in laws. We began having problems with the gauges not working then ac/heating unit would randomly stop working having to slap the dash board to get it working where eventually stopped all together. We starting using my in law who's is like new only 32000 miles on it. We began using the car for travel and low and behold the gauges started doing the same thing and now the ac/heating unit is randomly working having to slap the dash board to get it blow. Has there been any recalls on this car for similar problems. I just find it unusual both cars start having the same problems being the same year and around the same time.

The 2004 Bonneville has two separate grounding buss bars near the front kick panels. They tend to corrode over time, and a loose or failing ground will cause all sorts of gauge issues. Sometimes a good cleaning is all that's needed but it's a time-consuming deal to get to them. Anything that starts to work when you smack it is failing because of a loose connection 9 times out of 10.
