Pontiac Sunfire 2005 - Wiper blades fuse blowing every time I try to pump water

Asked by Kelly Jun 23, 2015 at 09:04 AM about the 2005 Pontiac Sunfire Base

Question type: General

My pontiac sunfire 2005 is blowing the fuse everytime I try to pump water from the wiperblades and it makes my windshield wipers fail. I then have to replace the fuse.

I tried buying a new wiper fluid pump for $16 and I replaced it. Problem persists. Any ideas? Should I unplug the pump and try it with a new fuse and see if it blows again?

there is a short in your wiring somewhere. gotta trace it and find out where. it must be rubbing on something.

Do you mean the wiring that goes to the pump? Trace with my fingers to find what exactly? what should I be looking for?

Yes, all the wiring you can find associated with the pump and even to the wiper motor. You are looking for any spot on the wire where the insulation might be rubbed off and rubbing on something metal, or another wire. That is what causes the short.
