Service schedule on new Volvo

Asked by RuthVolvo Dec 09, 2021 at 12:59 PM about the 2021 Volvo S60 T5 Momentum FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I purchased a new 2021 Volvo S60 11 months ago. I don't drive much so the
car only has 2,600 miles on the car. Mileage would indicate I do not "need"
service.  I don't want to take it to a dealership for an unnecessary appointment
because I'm sure they'd find some reason to charge me! But, I really want to
take great care of this car. Can you advise?

At minimum the oil should be changed at least twice a year even if you don’t drive it much. As far as having a dealer do it, I would until it is out if factory warranty but make sure they tell you upfront the cost of the service so they can’t sneak anything in on you.

You may void the warrantee by not following the schedule or if another shop does any work . Maybe .

Check your owner's manual (may be on the Sensus/infotainment screen) for information on the maintenance schedule. It should detail anything that you should need done after a year, even with lower mileage. You will probably need an oil change, and not much more. Even though you haven't driven it many miles, you should still change the oil at least yearly to keep the engine in good condition. Short trips can be hard on the internals.

You should follow VOLVO OEM Maintenance Schedule or Service and Maintenance Requirements on your Owner's Manual either at your Volvo dealer or at any Authorized Volvo Maintenance/Repair Shop in order to take great care of your Automobile. and I think you should also keep records of all your interactions with the Dealer or Repair-Maintenance Shop referencing maintenance and repair to your vehicle. make sure not to VOID OEM Powertrain warranties. Thanks

Maintenance is done according to mileage OR time. Whichever comes first. For example if the scheduled oil change interval is every 7,500 miles OR every 6 months you should change the oil every 6 months if you don't accumulate the 7,500 miles before the 6 months have passed. Your owner's manual will advise you on maintenance intervals. It sounds like you'll be following the time intervals instead of the mileage intervals. Hope that helps! Jim
