96 e350 chugs when coasting

Van chugs when coasting going down a hill

So we made it home. Upon arriving home it started with to knock, but if i put it in park there is no knock. Its from the transmission im sure but my question is if the fluid is shit,would that cause it to buck and feel like its got no cruising speed?
