I am trying to get my after market rear air conditioning unit in an Elk Industries 2004 E_150 van conversion repaired. The dealer won't work on it because they do not have the service manuals. Should I trust a local mechanic to work on it?

If your local mechanic knows how to repair A/C systems, give him a try. Elk Industries didn't invent a new system. They used off the shelf parts and a good HVAC mechanic should be able to service it.
