Buying a 96 Ford explorer

Asked by McCaddy Mar 10, 2019 at 03:52 AM about the 1996 Ford Explorer 2 Dr Sport 4WD SUV

Question type: General

I'm going to look at a 96 Ford explorer that has about 205k
miles on it according to the seller. What problems should I
look for or what should I expect to replace in the near
future? Or what the remaining life expectancy is. I'm just
looking for something that will get me to work and back
and possibly a move out of state in about a years time

Recently sold my 96 which I purchased new. I was meticulous about service and repairs. Fortunately I was able to do all myself. To add to what Tennisshoes stated, I had to replace upper and lower control arms, related steering components, radiator, AC compressor, starter. V6 OHV engine never gave a problem as well as the tranny. Don't know if I would trust a 20 plus year old vehicle where the maintenance and service procedures are not known on a move from state to state.
