Why won't my 1996 Ford Explorer accelerate in reverse?

My 1996 Ford Explorer will go in reverse, it
will also move in reverse, it just won't
accelerate in reverse.

Reverse only has one gear. So its only going to go so fast, usually 8-12 MPH tops. Now if it won't go that fast check your transmission fluid level. Make sure its full and looks like cherry kool- aid. If its low and smells burnt have it flushed. I highly recommend BG brand.

Really...how fast do you want to go? That 4R70W has a 2.23:1 reverse, lower than even 1st gear.."G'mornin TransAm77
