new car low gas milage

Asked by Pugman71 Nov 15, 2020 at 12:39 AM about the 2020 Honda CR-V Touring AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a new 2020 CR-V AWD Tourning with 35 miles on it. I have about 700
miles on it so far and have filled the tank a couple times. I am only getting
around 21 miles per gallon. I drive about 50% 50% city and hwy. Is this normal
for a new engine to get below the 28-30 miles per gallon. And if not why would
this be so low? Thanks

1 Answer

That does not sound too bad. The mileage may go up a bit once the engine breaks in. EPA fuel economy numbers are optimistic especially the city numbers. If the fuel economy stays low have the dealer check it out.
