hard starting

Asked by GuruCWFHJ Feb 10, 2019 at 10:35 AM about the 1996 Nissan Pickup 2 Dr XE 4WD Standard Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

recently my 1996 XE, 4x4 PU. when warmed up doesn't start up right away like it's not getting fuel or ignition.  I have replaced the fuel filter, rotor & rotor cap, new ignition wires.  It still doesn't want to start instantly but then sometimes it does.  When I have the problem, I don't get lots of smoke but seems the fuel exhaust is thicker at startup, than when it's
running.  Once running it clears up, it runs perfectly with increased gas mileage increase by one mile per gallon, it's just when I need to start up again I'm getting the delayed startup.  I'm thinking maybe it's fuel injection system but then sometimes I am thinking it's an ignition problem.  Maybe a faulty fuel injector.  I'm at wit's end.
Any suggestions or advise to more information on troubleshooting.

I’ve got at 1993 d21 and it literally does the exact same thing! I went through all the “usual suspects” like you did as well. I even went as far as putting all new injectors on it. But there was no change. When cold, it’ll basically fire right up. But if you run it and let it sit for a short time. Then when you try and restart it, it’ll take 6-7 seconds of cranking before it fires. Love to hear a solution to this!
