How do you deal with dealerships who put inaccurate prices out to the public?

Asked by Dmctruck Apr 18, 2020 at 02:01 AM about the 2020 Toyota Tundra SR5 CrewMax 4WD

Question type: Shopping & Pricing

While looking online Bell Toyota Phoenix for a Tundra Crewmax, I found
such a vehicle on Car Gurus on 4/16/20. It was a 2020 Tundra Crewmax
listed for $42,796. The next day I met the salesman and did a test drive. I
was interested and asked for the starting price. The salesman came back to
tell me the vehicle was listing for over $56,000. I showed him the print off I
made the night before, I showed the salesman the print out pointing out his
offer was more than $10,000 over the price listed on Car Guru. He brought
out his manager, who didn't introduce himself, and said it was a mistake, he
minimized it and said it was a typo, he said it wasn't a bait and switch,
although sure felt like it. Especially when he said they have another Tundra
on the lot that was less expensive.  I tried that out, told them I wouldn't go
over a certain amount.  After waiting on them for a while the price they came
back with was way over what I said my max was.  I found the process
disrespectful, suspicious and untrustworthy.   Take a look at the definition of
bait and switch, it sounds a lot like what happened to me.  They ,made no
attempt to make it right, they just wanted me off the lot.

I always double check the price and details on the dealer website.
