98 pathfinder AT only works in 4wd. Will not go into park unless 4wd is in N.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

If I attempt to put into Park there is a loud grinding noise. Engine must be off
for me to shift from N to 4wd or to place into park. Strange thing is that the
truck moves while in 4wd but only revs and does not even attempt to move in
2wd.

4 wd linkage may have come off while in four wheel. wont allow you to shift back to 2 wd.
